Trastevere
In Rome you absolutely must visit Trastevere.It is a really unique district located on the west bank of the Tiber and quite close to Vatican City.
Chances are you will fall in love with this enchanting locality.
A long, rich history of Trastevere dates back thousands of years back.
No wonder you can intensely feel this special atmosphere of winding narrow cobbled streets lined with hundreds of years old houses.
The historic locality of Trastevere is full of small restaurants, pizzerias, bars and characteristic trattorias that in the evenings begin to pulsate with the rhythm of the Roman night life.
This is a charming neighborhood full of specific, distinct nature that apparently has been very appealing to many foreigners, mostly Americans, who often put roots here.
Artists, authors and creative people of all sorts seem to be attracted to Trastevere by some kind of magic. This is the neighborhood from which such famous personalities like Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone come from.
Not only today but for many centuries, the focal point of Trastevere, has been the square of Santa Maria in Trastevere. Throughout the day, swarms of tourists, come here to visit the famous same-named Church, located in the square. It is renowned for its marvelous 12th century mosaics.

Janiculum Hill

For incredible panoramic views of Rome I'd recommend to climb a not very steep hill called the Janiculum Hill (in Italian Il Gianicolo). From the hill you can also have a nice view of the dome of St. Peter's. There are also several commemorative statues and charming area for a leisurely walk.
